Sources, timing & settlement
Market days are always 24 hours from midnight local standard time (UTC-6). During daylight saving time that is 1 a.m. to 1 a.m. by the local clock. Each city uses its own day boundary.
Rain status uses preliminary ASOS/METAR interval summaries from the NWS station observations, sourced from the weather observation network. Routine hourly reports build the accumulation chart; specials are not repeatedly added. Hourly resets occur a few minutes before the hour, so totals near the day boundary are approximate and may differ from the official climate total. Missing coverage is flagged. “Dry so far” does not predict the final result.
Kalshi’s current KXRAIN rules settle on the Weather Company’s reported CLIORD precipitation: strictly greater than zero is Yes; trace and missing final values count as zero. This dashboard treats missing live observations as unknown. Precipitation is liquid equivalent and may include melted frozen precipitation.
Models are collected hourly on the server from paid Open-Meteo: HRRR, GFS, NAM, NBM, ECMWF, ICON and GEM. RRFS is read from prepared NOAA runs. Open-Meteo saved snapshots are not individual initialization runs. NWS gridded QPF and PoP are official digital forecasts; the maximum period PoP is not the chance of any rain over the whole day.
